ER 80S-G Corten TIG Filler Rods (1.6mm) 5kg

AWS A5.28 – ER 80S-G

A 5KG Pack of Weld Star 1.6mm Corten ER 80S-G Weather Resistant TIG Filler Wire. Copper coated and combined with Nickel(Ni).  Designed for use where weather resistance is a key factor, such as applications involving structural steels (Corten and other similar high strength low alloy options).  Used extensively for construction works.

As a result of the two main alloying elements Copper (Cu) and Nickel (Ni), Weld Star Corten (ER 80S-G) welding rods have excellent properties.  In particular the capacity to withstand the effects of atmospheric corrosion.  Plus the additional benefit of good levels of tensile and impact strength.  Also suitable for sub zero working temperatures as low as -40°C.

Owing to the reddish rust or patina look that can be obtained from this filler wire it is often used in artistic applications. Particularly where a certain aesthetic appeal is required.  Other typical applications include construction of containers, tanks, bridges, building panels, chimneys, transportation and offshore platforms.

Features & Benefits
  • Excellent resistance against atmospheric corrosion
  • Sub zero working temperature as low as -40°C
  • Good levels of tensile strength
  • Designed for weather resistant applications
  • Elongation of upto 22% of original size
What is Corten?

The term CorTen is an abbreviation of the two main properties for this form of steel.  Which are CORrosion resistance and TENsile strength.  Created to provide an alternative option which does not require painting, plus develop a rust-like layer over the course of many years.

Corten, or weathering steel does not prevent rust.  The material allows the outer exposed surface to form a quick drying, thick rust which effectively forms a paint-like layer.  This rust coating then prevents the un-reacted material from the atmosphere to allow it to last longer.
